The famous Honda ASIMO has undergone its newest revision and the robot’s updated features were displayed at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES). This is the first showing of the ASIMO robot in North America.
The new improvements on the robot include a new design, more fluid and quick movements, the ability to run at 4 miles per hour, and better human interaction.
Better Human Interaction
The ASIMO is able to better interact with objects in its environment using floor, visual and ultrasonic sensors. This enables the robot to give and receive objects (like trays), hold someone’s hand and walk in sync with that person.
Carrying Objects Using a Cart
The ASIMO robot is able to push a cart and maintain its distance from the cart at the same by using force sensors in its wrists. It can even change directions and slow down.
Running
The ASIMO can run and have both feet off the ground smoothly. Honda was also able to make it run in a circle at high speeds with some adjustments.
Honda hopes that one day the ASIMO robot will be able to help those who aren’t fully mobile and even work in areas that are dangerous for humans.
