It is estimated that the average person spends around 3-4 minutes at the pump filling their car. If you thought that pumping gas couldn’t get any more “fun” it just may. Forget the prices and the annoying advertisments that badger on when you fill the car - you soon might be able to download songs right from the fuel pump.
At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) the Ovation2 iX fuel dispenser is currently on display the new idea. The unit is WiFi capable and contains a 15-inch display and speakers. The demonstration at CES used a Alpine Electronics stereo and navigation system which was installed in a Lincoln Navigator.
In the demonstration, songs were purchased from the device and downloaded to a cell phone or other WiFi capable device. After the songs could be played through the stereo system. The dispenser and the stereo system both use Microsoft Windows CE platform, .NET framework and Bluetooth interface.
On top of all that the Ovation2 iX fuel dispenser could also display news, weather and traffic information in real time. It still could play ads, but it also allowed you to print out coupons to save on items.
Since many visit the gas pumps regularly it’s now turned it will soon be turned into a hub of information where you can catch up on anything and even download those tunes to your cell phone.
