Samsung and Verizon Wireless teamed up today to provide the first cell phone with a 3.2 megapixel camera in America. The SCH-a990 from Samsung is able to take images that are similar in quality to an actual digital camera.

Normally, phones have on average a 2 megapixel camera and one can tell that the image isn’t as sharp as a real digital camera.

On top of that the phone is also able to view videos through V-CAST, download music files from V-CAST Music. The a990 can also use it’s Bluetooth connection to print images off a Bluetooth enabled printer. I don’t think many people have a Bluetooth printer, but it’s still a pretty neat feature.

Another neat thing, is that when you take a picture with the SCH-a990, you turn the screen 180 degrees so that it’s positioned like a real camera. Most phones, of course, take pictures in the vertical position.

The V-CAST service as mentioned before allows users to download music files, play 3D games, and view video clips which can be downloaded over Verizon’s broadband network. The V-CAST service will cost you $15 per month.

Samsung’s SCH-a990 allows for 1 full hour of video recording. Currently the phone costs $349.99 (US). If you are interested in the phone check out Verizon’s service page for the phone.
