Eight gigabytes of storage space? I didn’t make a mistake. Transcend Information has released the JetFlash 8GB USB drive.

As of writing this post it has one of the biggest capacities in the world. And you can store all that information in the palm of your hand.

What astounded me that even though it has such a large capacity the USB drive itself is not big or bulky. It looks just like a normal USB drive.

The company, Transcend Information, has spent many years researching high performance Flash memory.

And it seems that the hard work has finally payed off.

The transfer speeds of the JetFlash are astounding. Because of its Dual Channel technology it can read data at rates of up to 21MB/sec and write at rates up to 11MB/sec.

A cool feature is that the JetFlash 8GB USB drive can also act as a PC key and it also can act as a bootable device.

The fact that it can act as a bootable device is important, because if you don’t have a floppy disk, you can use the JetFlash USB to boot up a failed computer.

The USB also creates a partition or area where you can store data and have it password protected. This is important if you have confidential documents that you want no one else to access in case you lose the USB drive.

And an LED visibly shows the status of the JetFlash 8GB USB drive.

The USB drive comes software that makes the above features possible as well as a hook and neck strap.

USB drives can be indespensible. You can use them to carry information with you from home, school or work. It also can work as a backup tool. And with 8GB you can store a lot of data.

I think this is a wonderful product. I remember when I first saw a 1GB USB drive. “Wow I whole gigabyte”, I thought. But technology moves forward. Now even 1GB isn’t enough space.

I believe in the future USBs could possibly replace hard drives. At 8 GB you can store what you want, and bring it where you want it.

The unit sells for $571 plus tax. That might seem high, but remember that is has a gigantic pit of storage space.
