Well, Toshiba unleashed a plethora of new notebooks today and we will be looking at them later on this week. Today I chose to focus on the Toshiba’s Satellite R25-S3503 Tablet PC. School has ended here in North America, but you might be thinking of getting your child a notebook for the next school year.

For those who don’t know, Tablet PCs basically act as notebooks but can convert into a tablet by flipping the screen around. The screen is 14.1-inch widescreen and put into tablet mode, the screen is roughly the size of standard paper.

Users can utilize a stylus to write handwritten notes and of course store those instantly on their computer for later use. One feature I thought was great for students was that it can convert the handwritten notes into text for easy reference.

Other cool features are a shock absorbing hard drive (to prevent damage and data loss), a spill-proof keyboard, and fingerprint reader.

The Satellite R25-S3503 uses a 1.6 Ghz Intel Duo processor chip and comes with a 1 GB (or 1024 MB) or RAM. The amount of RAM should be enough for those running multiple programs without experiencing any lag.

The tablet PC also has 100 GB of hard drive space which I thought was generous for this type of notebook. It also comes with 8 MB - 128 MB of shared graphics memory. You can customize this on the computer.

While the computer connects to 802.11a/b/g wireless networks it does not allow for Bluetooth connections. The battery life wasn’t the most exceptional feature coming in at 3.97 hours, but you could add a Slice Expansion battery for up to 7 and a half hours of life time.

The DVD combo drive allows students to view movies and allows the burning of CDs and other disc formats.

I thought the price was pretty reasonable for the features you received, but this will ultimately depend on your budget. The Satellite R25-S3503 from Toshiba will cost roughly $1,349 (US). There enough features here for a student and should make a great school tool.
