The 250 Hz Powerball Gyroscope

Powerball I found this neat gadget while surfing the Net. It’s called Powerball.

Powerball is a finely engineered and precision crafted gyro consisting of a rapidly spinning rotor enclosed in a solid [hand held] outer sphere.

As you spin the Powerball more force is exerted on the wrist muscles. The faster you spin it around the more force is exerted on you.

In this post we’ll take a closer look at the Powerball, its benefits, and it’s very fun and addictive side.

Features

What is neat is that at the core of the Powerball is a spinning rotor that is so precisely balanced using advanced computerized technology that it can reach spin speeds of up to 15000 rotations per minute (rpms).

Similar products can’t get even compare (they usually can only reach between six to ten thousand rpms).

The built in computer has features that can record the highest rotations per minute, the current rpms in 30 seconds.

Benefits
Powerball
The Powerball has been described as a superlative fitness instrument, definitive sports product and gentle, non impact rehabilitation tool all housed within a [product] that’s so addictive and pleasurable to use that it’s bordering on being sinful…!

It is a non-impact device that contains a balanced rotor that generates inertia as the user spins it.

The Powerball ranges in speed from 2000 rpms all the way to 15 000 rpms (providing 40lbs of pressure).

Fitness Benefits

Even if you work at the gym and use dumbbells or free weights the Powerball is still going to be an important tool.

When you first use the Powerball, your forearm, shoulder and wrist muscles will literally burn. Used regularly you could soon be strengthening those muscles.

Sports Benefits

If you regularly play sports that use shoulder, arm or wrist muscles, the Powerball can greatly help you in this area. Karl Woodward, a golfer, has broken Guinness records for the longest golf and he regularly uses the Powerball.

Rehab Benefits

If you have inflamed wrist muscles the Powerball can be used (at lower levels) to rehabilitate those muscles due to its very smooth motion.

Fun & Addictive

Powerballs.com has mentioned that the competitive nature of the Powerball blew this whole gadget over the top. People would e-mail asking if their score was good?

To solve this “problem” Powerballs.com has put together a high scores list. The world champion so far is Akis from Greece who managed to do 16 218 rpms.

You can actually see Akis achieving the feat, by viewing this video from Powerballs.com.

Cost

There are many versions of the Powerball each with slightly different features. These range between $39.99 and $47.99 US.

In Conclusion

I got a chance to test out the Powerball and let me tell you it was fun. It takes awhile to perfect the wrist motion, but once you get it, you just can’t stop.

As you spin it faster you can feel your muscles tense and the pressure building.

As a (really) skinny guy myself, it was great to feel my wrist and forearms burning up. I do go to the gym somewhat regularly, but still don’t have great forearms.

I only got up to 11, 188 rpms, which is decent, but I intend to break my own record.

The interesting thing was to see how gadgetry met fitness in this very innovative product.
