Sony has created an all in one package for the computing and home entertainment. It combines a PC monitor and television in this 20-inch high definition LCD display. Sony’s HT205 is now the newest in Sony’s releases of a 17-inch and 19-inch PC/TV displays.
The 20-inch display has a 16:9 aspect ratio (the ratio between width and height of image) and a 1680 x 1050 resolution. The display includes built-in television tuners and the feature to also watch TV and DVDs in widescreen format.
The Sony HT205 also has a picture-in-picture and picture-and-picture features so that you are able to perform tasks on your computer while viewing television. The 20-inch PC/TV LCD screen can be mounted on the wall.
Sony states that this monitor displays “the shift toward converged TV and PC functionalities”. The display is great for watching movies, playing games and doing computer work, of course.
The Sony HT205 has a variety of inputs including S-video, component, composite, HD-15 and DVI-HDCP inputs. It has a high contrast ratio of 1600:1 and uses XBRITE technology to produce a bright and sharp image.
It also has a fast response time of 6 milliseconds and good viewing angles (170°/170°).
Now do I really want a 20″ HDTV? Do I want to be playing video games on such a little screen? Are we ready to merge the PC and the television yet? I don’t think this would work in your home.
Sony feels that the display would be most appropriate in “home offices, hotels, dorm rooms or professional settings that require both television and PC viewing”. I think in those situations it could work well.
The HT205 display will be available in April of 2006 and will go around $900.
