Sansa e200 vs. iPod nano
SanDisk will soon be releasing the Sansa e200 music player.
It was on display at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and SanDisk plans to make this player their top of the line music player.
The Sansa e200 is thin, compact and sleek, and give the iPod nano a run for its money but is it good enough?
The Sansa e200 comes in three flavours: 2GB, 4GB, and even 6GB of memory space. That 6GB is quite a bit of storage space for the size of this player.
It has a 1.8″ color TFT screen which makes it great for playing music, viewing photos and watching movies.
Did I say watching movies? Yup, the Sansa e200 contains video playback capabilities, which means you can watch your favorite shows or homemade flicks.
The player contains a Lithium Ion rechargeable battery which will last a good 20 hours. This of course depends on the quality and size of the song or video.
The Sansa e200 is lightweight and the back of the player is made of durable Titanium alloy from Liquidmetal® Technologies which SanDisk claims is stronger than steel and highly resistant to scratches and wear.
Of course we all remember the iPod nano’s screen scratchablity problems. The player is very similar to the iPod nano in dimensions:1.7 in. wide x 3.5 in. long x 0.5 in.
The Sansa e200 is .1 in. wider and .23 in. thicker than the iPod nano.
Sansa e200 vs. iPod nano
Okay, all that sounds great, but which player is better? I wanted to compare the specs of the Sansa e200 against the iPod nano. The results are tabulated below for your pleasure.

Apple |
Sandisk here beats out Apple in some key areas: For example, the Sansa e200 allows one to playback video in such a small player. It also has a longer battery life and display.
When we compare, the 2GB and 4GB versions of the e200 I think Apple comes out on top. Sandisk has introduced some neat features. It will be interesting to see how durable the player is once it comes out.
The Sansa e200 music player will be made available by the end of March 2006.

Don’t forget, the battery in the Sandisk can be user replaced. Once that battery only charges up to 15 minutes, the iPod needs to be either A) sent to a technician, or B) thrown in the trash. This is a pretty important feature in terms of longevity.

My old player was a 1st gen iPod nano. Just got a Sansa e270 Rhapsody. It’s integrated w/ Rhapsody similarly to how the iPod integrates w/ iTunes…only without being “anchored” to it like the iPod is to iTunes. It’s freaking awesome…I’ll never buy an iPod again. It’s a bit thicker than the Nano, but I can listen to FM stations w/ it…which kicks ass. And of course, the battery is replacable. And I can add space by plugging in a flash card. I love this thing…Sansa/Real/Best Buy really have something badass here.

I should also add that Rhapsody 4.0 is very impressive…

I think that by FAR, Sansa outweighs the Nano in almonst all features. Not only does it grab the edge as far as common features are concerned, it also includes the video playback option! How cool is that! For those are questioning durability, it may be helpful to note that the Sansa e200 uses Titanium liquidmetal for the back pannel casing and scratch proof material for the front to increase durability. Plus… memory is expandable…. This is a great product that addresses most of the common issues of MP3 player… Compatibility, Size, Storage, User Interface, Durability, Battery life and not to mention… the cool look! Eat your heart out NANO!

I bought a Sansa c240. Yes its an earlier version, but I prefer it much more than the ipod. I was thinking to buy the ipod, but I like the newer models of Sansa. I think Sansa won my music playing heart. When my c240 dies, which will be in a long time, I will purchace one of the newer models.
Yay Sansa!

My family have both iPods and Sansas. However, I like a Sansa over an iPod for the following built in features that a Sansa has but an iPod.
1> Digital FM tuner with 20 preset stations which many folks love to listen to radio when they’re on a train or a bus (public transportation)
2> Voice Record and Radio Record features
3> Removable battery (when a battery dies in an iPod may cost you a new iPod)
4> I like 64,000 colors screen
5> Bigger clear screen display, anti-scratch screen and hard to scratch its body.
6> It can play all format sound files
