SanDisk’s Cruzer Crossfire USB drive is now being used to fight crime - well not literally. SanDisk has partnered up with Ubisoft (a popular game maker) to link gaming with the USB drive.

Ubisoft has created CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder. The integration of the USB drive is supposedly to replicate the use of technology to fight crime. In the game the USB is used as the main tool to collect evidence such as bloody shoe, a strand of hair and a hotel room key.

The PC game features 5 different cases that need solving. Normally, a player needs to complete one case before moving on to the next one. However, by connecting the SanDisk Cruzer Crossfire drive to your computer you are able to solve each case at random.

The SanDisk Cruzer Crossfire USB with the CSI content will cost $59.99 for 1GB, $99.99 for 2GB and $189.99 for 4GB. One still needs to purchase the game. Of course, the USB drive can also be used to store images, videos, and documents.

While this might be a great idea, I’m really struggling to understand why I would pay $60-$190 just to try to solve the cases randomly. While the technology is pretty neat (i.e. a portable hardware device affecting a game) the price really isn’t.

Maybe if the USB drive would unlock characters or add moves then the price might be worth it.
