Like the many media player makers out there, companies have felt the attack of Apple. It’s known that Apple holds the biggest slice of the pie when it comes to media players. Apple has successfully created and millions off of the popular iPods and iPod nanos.
SanDisk had recently released the Sansa e200 media player (which GazottoTM reviewed). To start a campaign that would basically curry more interest into the player SanDisk created the idont website (www.idont.com)
The iDont campaign was supposed to be a funny way of stating the situation of how everyone has conformed to the iPod. The website had humorous posters and tee-shirts with slogans like “iSheep”, “iFollow” and “iChimp”.
This, nonetheless, caused quite a stir among blogs all over the Net. Some were offended by the posters, but others did want mp3 alternatives with open source software. Of course all the buzz (negative or positive) was great for SanDisk.
Well today, SanDisk remodified the whole campaign. They created a mascot called LilMonsta and a new website (lilmonsta.com). LilMonsta goes crazy and basically begins to eat any type of content it finds.
The website gives further information about the Sansa e200 player.
Of course all the controversy is great for SanDisk. I don’t blame SanDisk for taking a “tounge-in-cheeck” approach to advertising their product. On the other hand one can’t blame Apple either for having such a huge piece of the pie. Apple is in similar position as Microsoft or Google.
