Samsung has released a new line of mobile phones that it states “shatters the limits of slim design”. As one knows slim phones are all the rage (remember the Motorola RAZR). Well Samsung is realising three new phones in it’s Ultra Edition lineup and they will be very slim.

The lineup consists of the Ultra Edition 6.9 (6.9 mm thick) and is the thinnest of the three released, the Ultra Edition 12.9 is the slimmest slider phone with a thickness of (you guessed it) 12.9 mm. Lastly the Ultra Edition 9.9 is a clamshell cell phone which is 9.9 mm thick.

Let’s review some more important features from each phone in this line.

Ultra Edition 6.9 (X820)

This phone is the slimmest on the market and comes with a built-in 2 megapixel camera. It has a 1.9-inch screen to view photos or video. It also has the capability to snap videos. It’s Bluetooth enabled, contains 80 MB of storage space, and weighs 66 grams.

Ultra Edition 9.9 (D830)

This is the clamshell cell phone model - and a thin one at that. It includes a 2-megapixel camera (with auto-focus and flash features) which you can use to snap photos or record video. The Ultra Edition 9.9 also has a 2.3-inch screen, contains 80 MB of storage space, and weighs 85 grams.

Ultra Edition 12.9 (D830)

This is the slider version of this slim phone lineup. It has an astounding 3.13 megapixel camera and 2.1-inch screen. There is 80 MB of storage space on the phone, and it is Bluetooth enabled as well. It weighs only 85g.

So things look pretty neat. Samsung has claimed that it has created the slimmest phone, clamshell, and 3 megapixel slider. It is pretty astounding as the thickest model is just over a centimeter, while the smallest is almost half.

This is progress of technology and in 50 years from now we’ll probably look back at these phones and say just how bulky they were.
