Samsung Unites TV and Fridge
When you think refrigerator, do you think TVscreen? Samsung does. It is launching it’s new 24 cubit Popular Convergence (POPCON) refrigerator that features a 10.4″ LCD screen. Now when I saw this, I thought sweet, they stuck a TV in there. Well, they didn’t disappoint.
The focus of the LCD screen is to allow it to become the center for family information. I guess Samsung wanted to eliminate the magnets hanging onto scribbled notes. The screen is touch sensitive and has the following features:
It can be used to navigate different functions and find information. So, one can leave check their schedule and calendar for appointments or dates. It can also be used to leave messages either in voice or text form. The refrigerator also comes conveniently with a stylus so smudgy fingerprints don’t dirty or damage the screen.
The refrigerator also displays information in conjunction with tracking fresh food, or leftovers, and can even be set to remember expiration dates.
The POPCON refrigerator also allows you to have some fun. Along with all of the above features you can detach the unit from the fridge and place it anywhere in the kitchen and use it as a TV. The wireless TV screen has an auto setting that allows it to display TV programs. And if that wasn’t enough, they also stuck in an FM radio for music lovers.
Oh and I almost forgot to mention that it keeps your food, fruit and anything else in the fridge cold and keeps it from getting spoiled. Basically, the new POPCON fridge can be used as a TV screen and point of reference for the family.
At least they made the unit detachable, because watching TV on your fridge as you move around it the kitchen, and crane your neck to view would have been a pain (no pun intended).
The POPCON refrigerator will be available in fall 2006 and will cost around $3799.
