Samsung SPH-P9000

Samsung has unveiled a mobile convergence device (SPH-P9000) which is capable of combining voice and multimedia features onto one device using WiMAX Technology. The SPH-P9000 is based off of PDA technology, but packs many features into one device to allow for a multi-functional device.

WiMAX devices are expected to grow and become more popular in the near future as more and more devices come to market. The SPH-P9000 runs on the Windows XP operating system, and allows for an environment which will not seem alien to computer users. The device’s CPU will run at 1GHz.

The device has a beautiful 5-inch display and a QWERTY keyboard for easy typing. It will be capable of connecting users wirelessly to the Internet and also act as a mobile phone using CDMA EV-DO technology.

The SPH-P9000 allows for multimedia entertainment by adding functions such as an mp3 player, a Video On Demand (VOD) service, and a 1.3 mega pixel camera which will allow the user to take pictures.

The device comes with a 30GB hard drive which can be used to store music, files or videos and the display is capable of displaying video or documents. All of the features that we’ve just discussed come in a small package that weighs just over one pound.

The device also comes with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

Samsung expects the SPH-P9000 to be first released in Korea by the first half of 2007. I think that as technology expands it is inevitable that more and more features and functions are added to devices to make them multi-functional.
