Samsung Develops PRAM

Samsung has developed, what it calls, ” what is expected to be the main memory device to replace high density NOR flash within the next decade.” NOR flash memory is used in such devices as cellphones and PDAs. It is used mainly to store program code.
PRAM is basically a combination of flash memory and RAM - basically putting the best of both worlds together. The PRAM has very fast processing speed that is characteristic of RAM, but it also has the non volatile features of flash memory.
One advantage of PRAM technology is that it doesn’t need to first erase data and then write over it. It can easily write over data, which speeds up the device by 30%, saving you some more time. It also is half the size of current NOR flash memory.
Added to this, the life span of PRAM is around 10 times the life span of flash memory.
With all these great features it’s no reason it has been nicknamed “perfect RAM”.
Samsung is hoping to begine to market the PRAM technology around 2008 and have it compete with NOR memory at that time.
