RCA has created its own HD DVD player. Because High Definition televisions are becoming more and more popular, the high definition DVD format wars are still continuing. RCA has launched the HDV5000.

It is backwards compatible. In other words it will be able to play your current DVDs and music CDs.

The HDV5000 also a user to view high definition content, and select scenes, view menus and director’s commentaries, and also shop online. It’s kind of neat that the HD DVD format allows you to shop online which makes your TV another place where you can buy stuff.

The HDV5000 also allows for an Ethernet connection, so the player’s features can be updated as they become available. It also allows the user to convert DVDs to high definition discs. All conversion goes on inside the player.

The HDV5000 is expected to cost around $499 and is available now.
