Well, a couple posts ago I discussed how MySpace could be a dangerous place for children because predators may be lurking. However, in recent news it seems that now the National Security Agency (NSA) will be allowed to collect vital information about you from social networking sites such as MySpace.
NewScientist.com has reported that the NSA is looking at researching how gathering information from social networking sites can aid them in nabbing terrorists. The NSA is looking to use this information in conjunction with banking, retail, and other records.
Now the fact that terrorists could be on the Net is very real. There are websites dedicated to these movements, however, harvesting this information could be going a little too far. How?
Well, an article done by MTV stated:
“That joke you made on your MySpace page about taking flying lessons but only wanting to learn how to land? The pictures of you posing with a fake rocket launcher? … all of that information could go down on your permanent record, or into a security profile that could land you on a terror watch list.
So, being funny on the Net could put you under scrutiny even if you aren’t a threat to security at all. Of course this plan hasn’t been put into effect just yet, but it soon might be.
