Microsoft has taken of the wraps off its newest software product: OneCare. OneCare is aimed at Windows users who are looking for an antivirus, anti-spyware program. OneCare will be in direct competition with Norton and McAffee.
Microsoft will let you try it out free for 90 days. After that yearly subscriptions will cost $49.95 per year for up to 3 registered computers. Microsoft wanted to have one product that was a “all in one” package.
Currently, OneCare features protection against spyware, and viruses. It also includes a two-way firewall, and updates that are downloaded and installed on your computer. OneCare also allows you to tune up your computer so that it works at its best.
OneCare also allows one to backup and restore important files (music, work files, photos, documents, etc.) and write them to a CD, DVD, or external drive. They also provide free support via e-mail, phone, or chat which is a really nice feature if you are in a bit of a jam.
A shortcut is added to the icon tray on your desktop and the logo displays in green, yellow, or red - depending on the status of your computer. OneCare also has a website where you can easily download OneCare, updates, and view information about the latest threats.
OneCare is certified to protect your computer from Trojans, and have features such as Anti-Virus (Levels 1 & 2) and PC Firewall.

1I heard that the Best Buy-sponsered NASCAR will have the OneCare logo on it. Maybe I’ll start watching NASCAR now!

2The free/beta version of Microsoft’s spyware/adware detector was the only one that found hidden stuff other spyware couldn’t on my computer. If Onecare is as good I’d try it out.
