Well, I’m not 100% sure if this is true, but there seems to be some validity that Google is at least in talks to buy YouTube. YouTube is a video community where users are able to upload videos, rate videos, and leave comments.
However, YouTube has had problems recently in terms of making money from the website. While millions of users were hitting the website every day, it was not being monetized well. While, YouTube is extremely popular, it costs a lot to keep the site functioning. However, it does have a huge market and has caused it’s value to shoot to over $1 billion.
TechCrunch.com is reporting that if the deal is going through it would probably cost Google $1.5 - 2 billion. And the story has been reported in the Wall Street Times journal so it definitely seems a little more than just some rumor.
The journal reported that talks about the purchase are currently underway according to a source who is “familiar with the matter.†It Google picks up YouTube it probably would be able to shut out any competitors. Google also has the capital to keep the site going and the creativity to find a way to make money.
Let’s see where this goes.
