Plastic. It’s everywhere. More and more plastic is used to protect the beautiful gadgets that we own. USB drives, mice, keyboards - all covered in the multi-colored world of plastic. Well, the USB drive discussed today isn’t covered in plastic at all. In fact, as is obvious in the photo, that this gadget is made from hardwood.

The 256MB USB drive is created by Michael Leung. He came up with the idea while attending a computer fair. Leung found that the USB drives looked as though they didn’t visually convey the value that they had, through the materials used, the easily lost cap, and so on.

The fact that they store personal data, like music, pictures, business data led him to rethink the design of the standard USB drive.

So, he designed the hardwood USB so that it could have a closer connection between the person and their data. The 256MB USB drive comes in beech and dark wood and has a leather string that you can place around your neck. The cap is attached to the leather, so it won’t get lost.

The hardwood USB and costs around $61 (or 50 euros). If you’d like more information on the Hardwood USB visit studioleung.com.

It’s an interesting concept, and a unique design for a USB drive. I hope that soon larger storage quantities will become available.
