Google Maps has take a more out of this world approach to mapping. Google has introduced Google Mars in which you get to see satellite images of the planet mars. Kind of odd, but could Google be planning domination of the universe?

Great for astronomers or people fascinated by space and planets, Google Mars, maps out the planet and displays Mars in 3 ways: Altitude, Visible, and Infrared.

Unfortunately, the planet is displayed only in black and white form. However, Google says that the reason they did this is because Mars looks like butterscotch in color. By using black and white, you are able to see more surface features of Mars.

Google Mars also contains a bunch of links at the top of the page where one can learn more about the planet. It pinpoints areas on the map where spacecraft has landed, different regions on Mars, and specific mountains, regions, canyons, dunes, plains, ridges, and craters.

Just like Google Maps for Earth, you can zoom in, zoom out, and drag your mouse around to move the map around.

Google is working hard on producing a similar version of Google Earth, but for Mars. It would allow you to “fly in” to the planet and give you a more 3D rendering of Mars in true color.
