Google has managed to grow another tentacle, this time it’s dipping into the domain business (examples of domains are hello.com, example.net) . Google recently partnered up with popular domain registrars GoDaddy and eNom to provide their users to register domains for $10.
The $10 fee is higher than most domain registrars ( most charge under $10) but Google claims that it also pays to keep your information private (so a couple dollars more does that). Currently Google’s service allows a user to register .com .net .biz and .info domains, however, Google is trying to get others added eventually.
Registering through Google still allows you to have 100% control over your domain just as if you had registered with any other domain registrar. The advantage of registering with Google is that Google can offer you applications such as a start page, Gmail for your users, Gmail (so that users can chat to each other), Google Calendar so that users can organize themselves, and Google Page Creator.
All of this is done with Google’s hardware and software and requires pretty much nothing on the user’s part.
