Dell Recalls 4.1 Million Batteries.
Dell Computers has issued a voluntary recall of it’s lithium-ion batteries that were present in labtops. In recent months these batteries were known to overheat and create a fire. (Check out this link for nice pictures of one incident).
4.1 million batteries have been recalled, so if you own a Dell labtop there is important information fr you below:
Batteries being recalled were placed in the following labtops:
Dell Latitude D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810.
Dell InspironTM 6000, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 500m, 510m, 600m, 6400, E1505, 700m, 710m, 9400, E1705.
Dell PrecisionTM M20, M60, M70 and M90 mobile workstations.
Dell XPSTM , XPS Gen2, XPS M170 and XPS M1710.
The batteries were also sold individually. So even if you didn’t buy a laptop but bought the battery your laptop could be at risk. Also if you made any service calls to Dell and your labtop’s battery was changed your laptop may also be at risk.
The batteries may have the following stamps on them:
“Dell” and one of the following : “Made in Japan” or “Made in China” or “Battery Cell Made in Japan Assembled in China.” There is also a white sticker with an identification number.
Call Dell with this number if you aren’t sure and Dell will tell you if it is part of the recall.
Labtops that were affected sold between $500 and $2800. The batteries themselves sold for $60 to $180. The batteries being recalled were sold between April 1, 2004, through July 18, 2006.
