Creative Neeon 2 Media Player

Creative has unveiled their newest in the Neeon line: Neeon 2. The new media player will be available only in the Asian market. Like other media players, the Creative Neeon 2 allows one to have music, video, and radio in one compact package.

The Neeon 2 media players also have what are called “Stik-On skins” which allow a stick on to go on the front of the gadget and have a custom design on each one. The designs range in style from Punk Rock, Hip-Hip, J-Pop, and Classical and allow one to personalize their player.

The player has a black finish on the front but has 5 choices for the color of the back plate. The 1 GB and 2 GB version feature a black, silver, blue, pink, or orange backplate. The 4 GB version only comes with a silver or black backplate.

Creative’s Neeon 2 has a 1.5-inch display with a 128 * 128 pixel resolution. The display is able to feature both images and video. As with many Creative media players, this one also includes a built in microphone, allowing the user to record anything on the fly.

The Neeon 2 can play music straight for 20 hours and can play video straight for 8 hours. Apple’s 60 GB iPod can play music for 20 hours straight, but can only play video for 4 hours continuously.

Creative’s Neeon 2 weighs a mere 50 grams (81mm x 42mm x 12.5mm) and can hold 250 mp3s (1 GB), 500 mp3s (2 GB), or 1000 mp3s (4 GB) depending on the storage capacity.

Overall I like what Creative has done with the Neeon 2. It has added a personalized touch to a media player (reminds me of iFrogz for the iPod a bit) and the Neeon 2 does have a long video and music playing capabilities.

I dislike how the backplate is where you choose your color, but I guess they assumed that a user using a Stick-on would want to have a color choice on the back.
