British Grandpa - A Hit On YouTube
YouTube has a way of creating famous people. All it takes is one video and you could be a hit on the Internet. Now most of these “famous” people do stupid things, lip synch to songs, or are honestly hilarious.
However, YouTube (the popular video sharing website) has seen the arrival of a different kind. Peter, or as he goes on YouTube “geriatric1927″, a 78 year old British grandfather created his first video which you can see here. YouTubers embraced this and enjoyed that fact that someone at his age was creating videos.
His video was placed on YouTube’s first page and as of this writing he has had 521,861 views. He is now the person that has been most suscribed to (more than 6,500 have subscribed). Quite a hit.
In his first video he states:
“What I hope I will be able to do is to just to bitch and grumble about life in general from the perspective of an old person who has been there and done that and hopefully you will respond in some way by your comments.”
In another video he talked a little bit about the effect that the support and acceptance of the YouTube community has had on him:
“I am absolutely overwhelmed and don’t quite know what to say.”
“I just need to say thank you … this YouTube experience has been one of the major changes and breakthroughs in my life and given me a whole new world to experience.”
He is currently creating a series about his life story in a lighthearted fashion. He goes on to describe his life when he was young, his life as a radar technician during the war, his love of motorcycles, the love of his life, and his children.
Peter (check out his profile page) is a huge hit and I hope that he continues to make videos. His popularity seems to come from the fact that he is probably the oldest member of YouTube, and he has an experience that most of us youths don’t.
He has created a total of 8 videos and plans on making more.
YouTube members of embraced him. One commented: “It’s great that someone from your generation has chosen to share their views on life, and a shame more elderly people don’t too.”
Another stated: “I don’t have a grandpa, but if I could choose, I’d want you to be mine!”
There really haven’t been very many negative comments (compared to many that I have seen). Remember to be famous you need to be different. In a community dominated by young people it certainly refreshing to have Peter create these videos.
