Bill Gates Unveils Future of Interactive Entertainment

Bill Gates made a surprise appearance at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and he discussed Microsoft’s market advantage with the XBOX 360 and also spoke about the company’s vision of soon allowing gaming to be made available on one platform for any device.

Gates stated that the XBOX 360 will have sold over 10 million units and have 160 games available by the end of 2006. It claims that it has a head start when Sony releases the PlayStation 3 in November of this year.

He also outlined the new vision of interactive gaming. It has been dubbed “Live Anywhere” and this new initiative allows gamers to have their profiles, games, and friends available on the popular XBOX Live platform which will be available on any device anywhere at anytime.

Microsoft is hoping to create one place where gamers will be able to tap into at any time from anywhere. It hopes to combine the XBOX Live (around 6 million users) and MSN Messenger and MSN Games (25 million users) communities into one place.

Microsoft is hoping to launch this service in early 2007 and it will be available to PC users with Windows Vista installed. It will allow users an “online game experience in which they have one identity, one friends list, one set of achievements and voice communications across all games on the network”.
