Santa Delivering More Than Just Presents
Well, it seems that Santa is a little naughty this year. The Santa Claus worm known has IM.GiftCom.All has been infecting PCs through instant messaging services.
The worm affects instant messengers from Yahoo!, Microsoft, and AOL. Basically, you a message from someone on your contact list which is clickable link that begins like this: “santaclause.aol.com/a?|”
Unfortunately, clicking on this triggers a download and an execution of malicious code which them attempts to shut off your antivirus software and grab personal information which then
coulf be re-distributed.
Your antivirus is not gonna help you this time. The code is written in such a way so that your antivirus is not going to be able to detect the worm, rendering it basically useless.
